ABOUT THE EDITOR PATTY VINEYARD MACDONALD was graduated with honors in Home Economics in 1951 from Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University) in Stillwater. She is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals. After graduation, Patty married the boy across the street, Malcolm MacDonald, a West Point graduate and a regular Army officer. As Military and later as corporate gypsies, they reared their two daughters and a son on three different continents. The MacDonalds have nine grandchildren about whom she opines, "each one of them is cuter and cleverer than the others." After retiring in Arkansas, memories of those rootless years prompted MacDonald to write her cookbooks which reflect her love of the comfort foods and lifestyle of her growing-up years in Oklahoma. "The location of our hometown near the Oklahoma/Texas border has been described as ‘92 miles north of Neiman Marcus,’" she says, "and there’s no doubt my generation took our cues about the ‘good life’ from that preeminent taste-maker, Stanley Marcus. He taught us how to dress and decorate our homes, while Helen Corbitt taught us how to cook and eat well!" |
